Engineering Scholars Program

About ESP

The FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science is offering a three-credit, dual-enrollment course in engineering and computer science for high achieving high school students in Broward and Palm Beach counties. Students take the course listed below over a three-week period in the summer (June 10 thru June 28). Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive three semester hours of college credit.

ESP - 2019 Course Offerings

This course carries three semester-hours of academic credit and will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, June 10 thru 28, 2019. There will be nine class meetings over the three week period that meet from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch.

Program Dates

Monday 6/10, Wednesday 6/12, Friday 6/14, Monday 6/17, Wednesday 6/19, Friday 6/21, Monday 6/24, Wednesday 6/26 and Friday 6/28. Mandatory attendance is required for all class sessions.

Program Eligibility

ESP targets Broward and Palm Beach County students who are enrolled in Magnet Programs, International Baccalaureate programs, or who have been staffed into a gifted program in their home high school.

In order to qualify for the ESP, students must:

  • Be entering grades 10, 11 or 12 in Fall 2019
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have achieved the minimum scores in one of the following tests:
    • SAT Minimum Scores -  Before March 1, 2016: 440 Reading/Verbal, 440 Math; After March 1, 2016: 24 Reading/Verbal, 25 Writing/English, 24 Math
    • ACT Minimum Score - 17 English, 19 Math and 19 Reading
    • CPT (Accuplacer) Minimum Score - 83 Reading Comprehension, 83 Sentence Skills and 72 Elementary Algebra
    • PERT - 106 Reading/Verbal, 103 Writing and 114 Math/Algebra

NOTE: The FAU Testing and Evaluation Office offers a list of tests that can be taken on a walk-in or appointment basis depending on which test is being offered. For more information select the following address: fau.edu/testing

Testing can be done at Palm Beach State College or Broward State College. Please check their websites for fees and hours of operation. palmbeachstate.edu/testing

Program Cost

Florida Atlantic University has articulation agreements with Broward and Palm Beach County School Districts that allow the tuition to be waived for Broward and Palm Beach County students. Participants are responsible for transportation and for lunches. For first time students there is a $42.04 registration fee to cover a photo ID ($10) and a mandatory transportation fee even if the student is not driving ($32.04). For returning students who already have an FAU photo ID, the fee is $32.04.
